Project 1 : Case Study; Proposing Passive Building Design Strategies

Basic building design does not require mechanical heating or cooling. Builings that are passively designed take advantage of natural climate to maintain thermal comfort.

Incorporating the principles of basic design in building:

  • Significant improves comfort

  • Reduces or eleminates heating and cooling bills

  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions from heating,cooling, mechanical ventilation and lighting.

Objectives & Learning Outcomes 

  • To identify and define the principles of heat transfer in relation to building ab=nd people

  • Tounderstand what is thermal comfort and dicuss factors relating to thermal comfort

  • Identify environmental conditions related to site conditions, climate, etc.

  • Explain the effect of the sun on the thermal performance of buildings

Reflection 

Throughout this project i have sharpen my thinking on basic builing design and also gained a lot useful knowledge. There are all helpful in designing future houses, or building. Besides that, i even understand more on ventilation, and the calculation of heat gain. Moreover, other than gaining knowledge, dealing with one and another is also important as well. We learned to tolerate each other and deligated the work equally. â€‹
